Snowflake Goes Public! Why our review visits soared 600%

It is now well known that Cloud-Based solutions software, Snowflake, was listed on the New York Stock Exchange on the 16th September 2020.

The Initial Public Offering was an event the White Box team have been looking out for for some time now, and it didn’t disappoint, seeing an astronomical rise in the share price on the market open.

Share price?!

At the time of writing, Snowflake shares are trading at $245. This reflects over a 100% premium on the IPO price of $120. The hype surrounding the IPO, however, saw a daily high of $319 on the 16th September.

There is no question that a number of fortunes were made on Snowflake’s IPO day, but the stocks retracement following the $300+ highs back to $227 on the opening day of trading means a huge number of keen investors would’ve been left holding the bag as others cashed in their chips for huge profits.

White Box website madness

As avid users of the Snowflake technology, a number of months ago (February to be precise) we wrote an article about it and the usefulness of its functionality for business and their data analysis protocols.

Little did we know at the time our Snowflake review would become the second most popular and well visited article on Google!

The page view chart above shows our most popular website content in September 2020. This rise in visits reflects a 600% increase in our average monthly visits for the review, showcasing just how interested people are becoming in this technology.

The peak in visitors is just before the IPO and shows how frantic people were to figure out when the company would go public.

What’s the fuss?

As we move further into the Digital Age, people and businesses are producing more and more data. This data needs to be easily stored, accessible, and able to be utilised with scalable processing power when you need it.

Snowflake, in a nutshell, offers all of these things, and is neatly packaged and costed so you only pay when you use it (minimal storage costs apply but with a very efficient compressing system, these really are small).

With Cloud-Based technology, and more generally, ‘the cloud’, becoming more and more well known, and with big corporates moving to Snowflake, the rise in both the share price, and our website visits(!) makes sense.

Why we like it and what benefits could integrating Snowflake into your operation bring?

  • Storage - You can use it with a “data lake” mentality but act on the data easily when you want to.

  • Access - You can access through your favourite IDEs (Integrated development environment) or just through the web browser (and it really is a neat web experience).

  • Backup - Out of the box back up and security.

  • Cost - Pay as you use, so if you have a light data analysis month, you will notice it.
